I am so happy to have discovered a tribe for us Halloween fanatics! It's great to know that there are other adults who love this holiday as much as I do. I wondered if anyone knows of any good haunts in northern California? I've been to some professional haunted attractions like Gyro's 3-D World of Terror, but the last time I went to this one, it was actually kind of lame. Anyone know of any good ones? One of the best was Pirates of Emerson in Fremont, but I was hoping to find some good ones in the Sacramento area.

Just thought I'd introduce myself! :)

I hope your 2008 season was fun. What with my Captain (our glorious mod) in Boston now, I was at a loss for what I would do. Fortune was with me as a series of unlikely events led me to SCREAMWORKS' Conover Mystery Ranch and Sinisterium in Hollister, CA. (Check it: www.screamworks.org, I also started the SCREAMWORKS tribe here)

Thought I'd throw that out there for those of us who need inspiration, fun, or just want to see the biggest (and best) professional haunted attraction this side of the US!

Great tribe! Some very cool ideas on here.

I used to live in a turn of the century house in the city. Every Halloween I'd put on my "crone clothes" and sit in the rocker on the porch. "Are you a real witch?" was the usual question. "yes, but a good one", I'd reply and give them a handful of pennies. I'd offer a dollar to anyone who could tell me why I say "Happy New Year" on Halloween. It got to be that kids would come back every year and say "Happy New Year" instead of "trick or treat". Sadly, I moved away, and my old neighbor said she doesn't sit on her porch anymore on Halloween..."It's just not the same without the witch next door."

But in my new neighborhood, I've started a new tradition. I don't have a porch to speak of, so I sit my rocker in the driveway, which I've liberally sprinkled with fine glitter. I'm now know as the witch at the house with the fairy dust. Once it gets dark, the driveway glitters beautifully.

I'm looking to majorly expand this tribe to get as many home haunters as possible. The reason for this being, as this upcoming Halloween may be my last year in the bay area, I want to have a huge haunt in which either a space is rented or we are permitted to decorate on someone's house (pref. also a home haunter) to make one huge wonderful haunt.

I'm aware there are several haunted houses that are available to work *at*, but I'd rather create something different from the usual blood and guts and "haha I scared you". Rather my interest is to create an atmosphere.

This haunt would consist of stuff that mostly was created by us. Then, we'd advertise and have a big haunt.

So all who are interested say "Aye".

c) Make up a bunch of labels for different poisons, witchcraft type ingredients (newt eyes, frogs breath, etc.) ?

4) jars with human fingers in them?

What would be most fun to have back there?

IF . . . If I wasn't opposed to cutting the wall and replacing it with a drywall patch . . . I would open the mirror into my closet and then just have someone in a scary mask stationed there to attack anyone who opens the mirror.

* A voodoo house with spooky dolls and strange bottles with herbs and mysterious concoctions laying about. Some dark lighting, stuffed animals (taxidermy), lots of dripping candles.

* Victorian house with old photos, candelabras, tapestry, etc.

* "Satanist" lair, lots of red, black, pentacles, pan statues, silhouettes, goblets, tarot cards, etc.

What about you?

Well, as I often do, I'm making my annual it's way too early to even start thinking about Halloween post. This year, the plans are to do a haunted walk thru forest, leading up to a haunted inside of a castle, show casing a court scene. I'm hoping to have a maze at the side of my house, (a haunted forest) with a castle cover on the front of the house. Yeah, I know lots of work. Anyway I'm open to ideas of how I can expand what I already have, how to light a castle, and especially the maze part, so people won't bump into things!

Also..Anyone have any good suggestions for making trees??
